Coaching

The club has a long tradition of providing excellent coaching to both adults and young people. The Head Coach John Kimani and Senior Coach David Hudgell, are enthusiastic and experienced LTA qualified coaches, who will help people enjoy the game and get the maximum from it. They are skilled at adapting the lessons to suit all ages so if you’re young or not so young you’ll find you can fit into the groups. Their aim is to allow everyone in the groups to reach a level of competence that they are happy with, whether that is just to play a relaxed game with the family or to compete in leagues and tournaments.

There are many benefits to joining the groups and the club apart from just learning to play tennis. Although learning the skills is taken seriously a lot of fun is had during the sessions and long lasting friendships have been forged whilst battling with the mysteries of the service action. It’s also a great way to get fit - although a trip to the bar afterwards may undo all the good work!

Many established competitive players find that coaching irons out problems in their game or adds a new dimension that can give them the edge over their opponents. A number of club members take part in the various groups with many of them having progressed through from the beginner groups to intermediate standard.

Coaching for Children and Young People

The club is an LTA accredited mini tennis centre and children from just 3 ½ yrs old can take part in coaching sessions with a well balanced programme that they can progress through to ensure they have fun as they learn. This may lead them to want to compete in leagues and tournaments and the coaches can guide and support them through this. Children and young people can come to the regular Saturday morning sessions on a pay and play basis or join the more structured coaching squads that may lead them through to high performance standards. Week long courses which run in the school holidays are also a popular option.

Coaching for Adults

There are coaching groups on offer to adults at beginner, improver or intermediate levels so if you’ve never picked up a racket before or you want to increase your chances of playing in the first team then help is at hand. Our coaches are experienced in adapting lessons to suit different levels of skill and want to ensure that everyone is comfortable with the standard they are achieving.

Individual Lessons

Adults and juniors who want to improve fast or have a particular aspect of their game they want to work on can book lessons with the coach of their choice. These lessons should be booked directly with the chosen coach.

Don’t forget that, as with all newly learned skills, practice is the key - so everyone in the coaching groups, whatever their age or ability is welcome to become a member, use the courts as much as they wish (within the general rules of the club) and take part in all the club activities
